In tune with the environment

Lyme’s new Gun Cliff Walk - a suitably rugged promenade which runs from Cobb Gate towards East Cliff.

Its superstructure hides a state of the art resewerage scheme completed by South West Water in January1995 and is buttressed by rock armouring to protect the new sea defence walls from the worst ravages of the tides.

The scheme not only attracted the accolade of Winner of the Secretary of State for the Environment’s Award for a Scheme of Environmental Excellence and the prestigious Civic Trust Award, presented in June 1997, but also brings local bathing waters up to stringent EC standards.

The Marine Conservation Society has recommended that the main bathing beach (front beach) has achieved the water quality standard required to be considered for entry in the "Good Beach Guide", being amongst the cleanest in the country.
